Double page spread

For my double page spread I set it out as an interview. Underneath the picture at the top left hand side of the page there is a text that tells the audience what the interview is based on. The picture at the top is a photo I had edited in photo shop by making it black and white and then adding red to it, in the shirt and guitar. I used red coloured text also for the question's that were asked to the band member. Also the title of the page "Casey Tells All!" is in red. the title grabs the readers attention as if everything was being told to them. The questions written to the main character are red, and the questions written to the band members are in blue this is to show a clear difference between the two different interviews.

the pictures at the bottom represent hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil. This is to show that he is proud of what has happened and that he wants everyone to hear about it and that he doesn't care about what people think about it. They had been laid out over two pages with two of the images on one page and the third image on the other page. The images are small but they are easy to be seen. The other images on the page at the top right hand side of the page are pictures I had taken at a concert, this represents the rest of the band members. I thought this would have been a good idea for the audience to see images of the rest of the band rather than focusing the whole story on one band member.

With the interview for the band members I had wrote their name and who they are in the band, for example 'Dylan- Drums.' This was to show the audience that if they didn't know who the band members were they now have a chance to know, and also who the question was aimed at from the band. I once again had wrote the answers in white along side with the answers in the main interview. I had wrote out the interview in font size 10pt, this is a small font so I was able to get more written down on the page. The questions are written in the same size but they have been written in bold so they stand out more than the answers.

The questions I choose thought they went in well with the story line, and trying to get information out of the interview for the audience. Also to help them understand what the band member had gone through and also the band not knowing.

I am pleased with my double page spread the most out of all my final products, this is because I had spent more time on it to try and make it as detailed as possible. I think the page could have been improved my adding more questions to it, or had been written in more detail in the answers. The reason I didn't add more text into the page is because I didn't want the size of the text to be too small for the audience to read.

Contents page

For my contents page I once again have a black background with purple, red and white text colours for my page. There are also pictures on the page, this is to show other different views on the stories from the front cover.

The purple for the title 'Contents' I thought would still fit in with the title of the magazine. With also the purple at the bottom of the page this brings the audience's attention to the free pull-out posters. With images which i had previously edited myself at home. At the bottom of the page I had done the 'Also' bigger than the font on the rest of the page and also with it being bold makes the image stand out more. I did the 'Also' in purple and then the rest of the sentence in white, making the 'Also' stand out more than the rest of the sentence.

The way my contents page has been laid out is that the audience can choose something they would like to read for example the stories on the main page, with additional pictures and the page number where the stories are located inside. I laid it out through categories of 'Front cover, Other News, Gig Guide and Competitions' this gives the audience a chance of what category they would want to read. The number of the pages are in no particular order in the category Front cover, but with the other categories they are in order starting with the smallest number first.

With the pull-out posters there is a box at the bottom of the page, its purple so this catches the audience's attention with the text inside being white. The text is the name of the stars who's posters are inside, with images above to show a preview of them. The pictures are all edited in different ways so that there is a wider range of posters to choose from.

I choose the text to be white, this is so even though it is plain the audience is still able to read it against a black background. With the text also not being as important as the rest of the text on the page it does not catch attention unless you read further into it. Above one of the pictures on the page there is a number and a title, this is the main story. This text is wrote in bold and is a bigger font than the rest of the white text on the page, due to it being the main story of the magazine. The picture underneath is a picture relating to another story on the front cover with a number also beside it, this is if the audience wants to read that story then they can find the page number more easily.

Over all I think my contents Page turned out well, I particularly like the layout of the pull-out posters at the bottom, the way the different posters are shown, even though they are smaller than the other images on the page they still stand out. Also the way the purple text to go with the title goes, so there are not too many colours on the page. The least I like about the page is the different pages that are on offer for the audience to read, I think that there should be more also more categories. With there not being enough sh0w's that there is not that much within the magazine.

Front cover of Final Product

For my magazine I choose to base the genre on indie rock, modern rock and heavy rock. To show this in my front cover. For the name of my magazine I choose to call it studio, but replaced the 'I' with a music note, making it easy for the audience to recognize that my magazine is based around music. I choose to have black for my background this was to go along with the genre of my music which sometimes can be 'dark'. I did this by creating a whole new page on photo shop and then coloured it in black.

For my main image, also my main story, I decided to have my model with his guitar with no particular pose. I did this to show that the model was in a band, with him wearing a red checked shirt along with a red guitar, this was so that the colours would go and so it wouldn't be over crowded on the page. I edited the picture to the way I wanted it, by changing the brightness and contrast of the picture, then I cut around it on photo shop then placed in on top of my black background taking up most of the page as my main image.

For my title I did in purple, and got a music note off the Internet. I added the music not into photo shop then took out the background then painted the note in the same colour purple to the rest of the text by copy and pasting the colour code into the paint option. I put the title above the image so that it is still easy to see, I did try placing it behind the image, but the title wasn't able to be seen. I put the title on top by clicking on the layer of the main image and then merged the layers together, this made the title easy to be seen and recognize. I had put the date and the issue number underneath it, still in the same purple as the title. This was so if the audience would want to know the issue of the magazine it is easy to locate.

Above my title there is an advertisement of stars backstage at a festival. I made a box at the top of the page and then coloured it in. I then added text above it, I thought the box around the text would make the text still stand out more and it is also another way to attract an audience's attention. With the explanation mark at the end of the sentence made it to be a 'must read.'

With the stamp on the page for the audience to win tickets to see a band thought would be a good idea so the audience are being dragged in by free competitions. I placed it on the left hand side of the page so that when the magazine is on the stands it is one of the first things the audience will notice.

For the main story and other stories on the front cover, I put in black boxes over the main image. This is because with the black background and the other colours from the main images finding a colour for the text would have been difficult to be seen. I choose to do the box so the text is easily seen to the audience and doesn't clash with any other colours on the page. I had got the idea from another magazine that had done the same thing but with different colours and front sizes. With the black going over the images this makes the text easy to read.

The picture at the bottom of the page for a new tour, shows the audience what else the magazine has to offer, star's and their new tours, interviews backstage of festival's and also stars on drugs, all of these story lines shows all the different types of stories that the magazine has to offer. I had taken the picture against a brick background, to give it a different effect to it, I had also tilted it to the side a bit once again to give it a different effect.

At the bottom of the page there is a bar code, I had got this off the Internet and cut it and made it smaller so it would fit my page right. I decided not to put a price on the front cover, but did decide to price it at £1.98 this is like play on words to the audience, they think they are getting a bargain for the magazine still being £2.

I am pleased with how my final piece turned out to be, the way the magazine all fits in together. The stories on the front cover I think are a good way to catch the audience's attention, main story with a well-known band member coming out 'gay,' drugs, and a new tour, these are all different things that an audience would be attracted to. I could have improved it by added more colours to the page making it look more interesting and eye catching. Also the way the stories have been laid out on the page, they seem to be placed random. I am pleased with the way the main image had turned out, with everything else around it. The main image had been edited in photo shop, and then copied into the background.

With the logo of the magazine being so big, its easy to tell what magazine it is, also when its on the magazine stand its easy to find. With the bright red and white makes it stand out more from the other text.

With the main image of Lily Allen topless with wild cats next to her, makes the image dangerous, also with the title 'sexy beast' fits in with her being topless. the black and white in her name makes it simple but also effective. Only using black, white and grey in her clothing, title and the wild cats makes the whole image fit together. With the words 'wicked' written in red makes her seem more dangerous.

Other text on the page is written in black, white, red and blue, fitting the whole front cover together, but this could also be a down fall, the title doesnt stand out as much as the other news, only because it has a bigger font.

with the symbol '>' brings attention to the other news bring adertised about other famous artist's that fit into the magazine's genre. With the text at the bottom also advertises other artist's and news inside.

the genre that the music focus' on is pop, indie and modern rock. I could tell this from the stamp '50 greatest rock movies' and Lily Allen being on the front cover, with her music being pop. Also at the bottom of the page there is more advertising for other bands and singer's interviews within the magazine. With coloured 'forward slash' to match the rest of the front cover.

In the media lesson I choose to analyse the front cover of the Kerrang magazine (2010). In the lesson I analysed the front cover, design, audience and genre of the magazine.

There are many objects on the front cover that would attract their targeted audience, which I think is aimed at people in the age range of 14-25, this is because of the music that the magazine focus' on, this would not appeal to adults much older. Also the magazine is aimed at both male and females but I think males are more likely to buy it, due to the masculine colour, blue. The front cover also contains flash buttons which are pink, showing the magazine is aimed at both genders. Also making them stand out from the other text on the cover, they have printed "win!" bold and a bigger front than other text on the cover, grabbing attention for a competition to meet a band.

As their main storyline they have an interview with two band members, with their picture being the most obvious on the front cover. The main title is also over the band member's picture, with a quote of the interview, this is showing the audience an idea of what the interview was about. Even though one of their heads is covering the title, it is still easy to tell that the audience would pick up what the magazine is. The title is easy to notice with black as the background and the text in white and broken making the music inside appear edgy. Also on the front cover it advertises pull-out posters of band members, and pictures of the magazine tour again trying to bring in their audience. This is a weekly magazine so the price isn't too high, £2.20, this is also shows us what social group it is aimed at, C1, C2, D's and also students from the age range.

On the left hand side they have printed their side stories, this is because the magazine is showing the audience what else it has to offer. there is also another side story but printed along the top making this story a bit more important than the others, they are backstage photos and information of bands on tour.
The bar code is also on the front this is an easy way for the audience to find out how much the magazine is and also what issue it is.

The way the magazine is layed out with the main story being the most obvious. There is also a clear view of the other stories within the magazine, through the side stories. There are only 4 colours used on the front cover, black, white, blue and pink making the magazine simple but still effective. Blue showing the side stories, white used for text, black as the text background and pink is used for the flash buttons. The flash buttons seemed to be placed randomly as if they have been stamped on the cover. The side stories are placed on the left hand side of the cover, making them obvious to the audience that they are the side stories.

From the front cover I can tell the music inside is rock and edgy. this is because the title and side stories have a blue background and white font colour, the background is also cracked giving off the impression that the music inside is edgy. with the title also being cracked gives off the edgy look, but it is more obvious to the audience.

This is my analysis of the front cover of St Marks magazine for their sixth form.
I commented on:Colours used
The different logos
The two pictures
Main title
Cover lines.
Even though the magazine was not to be sold, it was to be used to grab students attention for the sixth form.
it was a very simple front cover, but also gets across to it's audience what it is all about, for example; its specializes in business and enterprise. Also with the two picture create a relaxed environment and multicultural society.

This is the work we did in media. We had a picture of a healthy magazine front cover, and had a to analyse it. I commented on the: Mast head & Logo
The main image
The cover lines
Dateline
Barcode
Selling line.
I wrote about how they all helped made the magazine appealing to it's audience, and also what audience it is targeted at. We also had to create an audience profile for the front cover.

This is the cover of my magazine. I edited the picture by changing the brightness. I added text to the image to create the front cover effect, and also added a picture for a new calender to grab the audience's attention to by the magazine. The price on the magazine, but is not very clear, but that could have been imporved by having another colour.
I took the picture in the woods whilst it was winter and it was snowing. This meant the leaves would look brighter. I could have also improved the front cover by having different colours of the text, so the writing could stand out more, and catch the audience's attention.

well today we went on photo shop, which was rather fun in some places.
we learned how to drop shadows and backgrounds, add text, rotate the picture, and also how the alter the colour and brightness of the picture!
i was intoduced to this stupid site to do my media work, and also use photoshop.
